Ilah Sisson Walser will start serving as Conference UMW President in January.  Ilah has been a life long member of the United Methodist Church and an active member of the UMW since it’s creatiion.  Ilah is a member of the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church (Adirondack District), having grown up in the Sand Hill United Methodist Church (Oneonta District).  Ilah lives in an adjoining house to her sister in Ballston Spa.  She is the mother of twin daughters, and the grandmother of five, 2 girls and 3 boys.
Ilah is most often seen with her knitting needles and yarn creating hats for charity or prayer shawls.  She is very involved with the Tree of Life Ministry in Mission, SD with the Lakota peoples of Rosebud Reservation.  As a way of sharing her talents and gifts, Ilah knits as a centering and focusing activity.  If you haven’t seen yet, you will be able to see Ilah knitting and, at the same time, following the business meeting and contributing words as needed.  As she says, “It lets me do mission work and church work at the same time.”
Ilah has served on the local, district, conference (Troy), jurisdictional, and general church levels of UMW and UMC.  She was a delegate to General Conference and to NEJ Conference, and a member of the NEJ Episcopacy Committee. She is a Certified Lay Servant and has served in many capacities as Lay Leader, Trustee, Chairperson, Secretary, Communications Coordinator, Treasurer, Budget Chair, Spiritual Growth/Christian Personhood leader, and Church Co-Librarian. Ilah has taught at Mission U and several Lay Speaking/Servant Courses.
Hobbies and life interests are blended into one, Ilah spends a lot of time knitting and creating with her hands.  She is an avid reader and enjoys the old style of reading with pages and covers (she does have a Kindle app and has been known to read on the ipad as well).  She loves her family and enjoys keeping in touch via the computer.  She can usually pull up a recent picture of the grands on her ipad.  She is an award winning photographer and loves to share her photos on note cards.
Ilah is looking forward to the challenges and rewards of being the UNY Conference UMW President.  The greatest reward will be meeting you at Conference meetings, gatherings, District meetings, and Mission U.  We are looking forward to hosting the 2016 NEJ UMW gathering in Syracuse.  In the meantime, if you would like to get in touch with Ilah, please use her email:  ISissonWal@aol.com.
